QTI GENERATOR

A QTI generator for instructors, not the command line.

Most QTI tools are Python scripts you run in a terminal. QuizCraft is a web app: paste a reading, get questions, and download a QTI 2.1 package your LMS will import — with the source paragraph cited on each question.

01

What a QTI file is, and why you need one

QTI — Question and Test Interoperability — is the standard package format that Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle and Brightspace all accept for importing quizzes. It's a zip file with the questions, answers and metadata inside. Build a QTI package once and you can import the same quiz into any of those systems instead of retyping it into each one.

The catch: making a valid QTI file by hand is fiddly, and the existing free generators are command-line tools aimed at developers. If you're an instructor, installing a Python package to format a quiz is a non-starter.

02

Generate the questions and the QTI in one place

QuizCraft does both halves in the browser. Give it your source — a PDF, a Word doc, or pasted text — and it writes the questions and packages them as QTI 2.1, ready to import. No template to memorize, no syntax errors to debug.

Every package you export works with:

  • Canvas
  • Blackboard
  • Moodle
  • Brightspace (D2L)

Prefer not to use QTI? The same quiz also exports to Google Forms, PDF and Word.

03

The citation that other generators don't carry

A plain QTI generator converts whatever text you feed it — it has no idea whether a question is fair or where it came from. QuizCraft anchors every question to the exact paragraph in your source and writes that citation into the package. So the QTI you import isn't just questions — it's questions an integrity review can trace back to the reading, months later.

From reading to imported quiz

  1. 1. Paste or upload your source.
  2. 2. Generate & review — types, count, and the source citation on each question.
  3. 3. Export QTI and import it into your LMS. For Canvas specifically, see the PDF-to-Canvas-quiz walkthrough.

Moving off a desktop tool like Respondus? The Respondus alternative page covers the switch.
